Jennifer Snow Sims retired after spending 25 years in education. She feels that she went directly into another area of teaching because she teaches weekly Bible study at her church, New Hope Missionary Baptist, where she is one of the associate ministers.
She volunteers with the chaplain's staff at RMC-Anniston and RMC-Jacksonville under Chaplain Jim Wilson. Jennifer 's contact with patients allows her to minister the word of God to those who are experiencing health problems.
"I offer the patients I visit spiritual encouragement , and I have prayer with them if they desire it," she said. "Sometimes, we just talk about whatever they want to talk about and I thoroughly enjoy it. It's very rewarding. I often feel that patients that I visit encourage me more so than I do them."
Min Sims retired after 22 years in education.
Jennifer said her desire as a child was to become a teacher. "I love education," she said. "Learning comes from many different avenues and experiences. I believe that education is the foundation of our society, and I enjoy teaching and believe that God gave me a gift for it."
Jennifer was born in Jacksonville. Except for a short residency in Anniston, she's lived her life here. She graduated from Jacksonville High School and received her bachelor's and master 's degrees in elementary education and an Ed.S. in administration from Jacksonville State University. She received a doctorate in ministry in theology from Covington Theological Seminary in 2009.
"I'm a born again Christian," she said. "Therefore, the more we learn about who God is the greater our walk with Him. I want to learn all that I can about the things of God. Becoming a minister and attending seminary has enhanced my knowledge of the Lord, and I've been able to share this with others."
Jennifer taught nine years at Johnston Elementary School, then moved into administration as the assistant principal at Anniston Middle School and later became the principal of Anniston Middle. She also was principal at Randolph Park Elementary and later became the parent involvement specialist at Randolph Park all in the Anniston City School System.
